Help HCPS high schools gain enough YouTube subscribers to livestream home and away games
Henrico, Va., Feb. 8, 2021 — Because of pandemic safety measures, crowd sizes for the upcoming “fall” athletic season at Henrico County Public Schools high schools will be very limited. However, fans of HCPS high schools will have a chance to watch their teams’ games live — if the schools get enough subscribers to their new YouTube channels to satisfy YouTube’s livestreaming rules. Each high school’s YouTube channel must reach 1,000 subscribers in order to be able to livestream events on smartphones and other mobile devices.
Livestreaming would begin for some games for the fall sports season when action begins Feb. 22. Fall high school sports were postponed by the Virginia High School League in order to prioritize safety, but the seasonal label has stayed the same.
