Digital Citizenship

At HCPS, we are committed to helping students develop the skills and judgment needed to use technology purposefully, responsibly, and ethically. To support this effort, we participate in Digital Citizenship Week, an initiative created by Common Sense Media to reinforce safe and healthy online habits.

While students receive digital citizenship lessons at school throughout the year, healthy habits start at home. To help start these conversations, we have attached a printable agreement from Common Sense Media that your family can use to set shared expectations around privacy, screen time, and respectful communication.  Common Sense Media – Family Media Agreement (PDF) (also attached)

Not only is the ASVAB a military entrance exam, but it also gives you good insight into possible career paths and is free practice for the SAT. Involvement in this testing is voluntary and is not a commitment to military service.

Attendance

Early Dismissals

The Attendance Office is not able to accommodate numerous dismissals at the end of the school day, especially walk-in early dismissal requests after 3:30 p.m. We encourage you to use the process found in the “Early Dismissals” part of the Attendance message below.

Reporting Absences

To report a student's absence, please use one of the following methods:

  • Phone Call: Call the school's attendance office directly.

804-527-4600

press #1 for Attendance

press # 9 for Spanish or any other language

  • Written Documentation: Provide a signed note from a parent or legal guardian, or a doctor's note.

  • Online Form: Complete the Google Form available on the Tucker website.

Early Dismissals

To request an early dismissal for a student, please follow these steps:

  • Written Request: Send a note with your student on the morning of the dismissal. The note must include:

    • Date

    • Student's full name

    • Time of dismissal

    • Reason for dismissal

    • Parent/guardian signature

    • Parent/guardian phone number

  • In-Person Dismissal: You may also come to the school in person to sign-out your student. Please be prepared to present your physical valid government-issued ID, not a picture of it.

Once the written request is processed, the student will receive an early dismissal pass, allowing them to leave class at the designated time. They will then meet you at the designated pick-up location or will be authorized to drive themselves.

Please note that early dismissals cannot be arranged via email or phone call.

Outside Food Deliveries

In order to reduce distractions and maintain a safe learning environment, we do not allow outside food to be delivered to the office. Outside food is defined as restaurant food, fast food or food from a delivery service.

Please have your child eat before they come to school, so that they avoid arriving while drinking and eating. As a reminder, breakfast and lunch is free for all students. So, if your child forgets their lunch, they may eat for free in the cafeteria. Finally, students are not allowed to leave campus for lunch or order food for delivery.

The HCPS School Calendar

Here is the day 26-27 Day 1/Day 2 calendar. Please make travel plans with this calendar in mind.

The last day of school is Friday, June 4th, and students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will have exams each day that week. All students are required to be present for their scheduled exams.

PowerSchool Parent Portal

Here are some steps to accessing the PowerSchool app and filling out important forms:

1. Open the PowerSchool App (Click https://sis.henrico.k12.va.us/public/home.html to create an account.)

  • Locate the App: On your mobile device, find and open the PowerSchool app. The app icon usually features the PowerSchool logo.

  • Log In: If prompted, enter your username and password to access your account.

2. Access the Forms Section

  • Tap on the 3 Dots: Once you're logged in, look at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the three little dots, which represent the "More" menu.

  • Select “Forms”: In the menu that appears, find and tap on “Forms.” This will take you to the list of forms that need to be completed.

3. Complete the Forms

  • Choose a Form: From the list, tap on the form you need to complete.

  • Fill Out the Information: Enter all required information into the form fields.

  • Check for Completion: As you complete each form, make sure all required fields are filled in. The app will guide you if anything is missing.

4. Submit the Forms

  • Look for the Green Check: After completing a form, submit it. The form is successfully submitted when you see a green checkmark and a message that says "Submitted."

  • Repeat as Needed: Continue completing and submitting each form in the list until all forms are marked with a green checkmark and the status shows "Submitted."

5. Confirm Completion

  • Review Submission Status: After completing all forms, double-check that every form in the list has a green checkmark next to it, indicating successful submission.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

To limit distractions during the instructional day, students are prohibited from using cell phones and personal smart devices on school property after the first bell rings at the start of the school day to begin instructional time until the dismissal bell rings at the end of the school day, including during lunch and in between class periods.

Smart devices include any personal electronic device that can connect to the Internet and wirelessly collect, process, and transmit data, including smart watches, tablets and personal computers. Meta glasses are also not allowed at school.

The 9th graders did an excellent job with all of this today!
