Monday Greetings: August 4, 2025

Starting this week, our school will send a message each Sunday at 6 PM with the goal of providing clarity, transparency, and consistent updates to our school community. These messages help ensure that families are informed, feel connected to school events, and can plan ahead with confidence. Be sure to follow us on social media—@Greenwood_elem on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter—for even more updates, reminders, and celebrations throughout the week!

Join the PTA – [ CLICK HERE ]
Our goal is 100% PTA membership as we aim for the National PTA School of Excellence Award. Last year, we were proud to win Virginia PTA’s School of the Year, and no school has ever won two years in a row—until now! With your support, we can make it happen!

Instructional Leadership Meeting - Vision and Direction
Our theme this year is One Team, One Dream. During our most recent staff meeting, we came together to align around a shared goal: to become Henrico’s—and ultimately Virginia’s—most diverse Distinguished School of Academic Excellence by the end-of-year state assessments in May 2026. This recognition is based not only on academic achievement, but also on strong attendance. Reaching this milestone will require a unified commitment from students, families, and staff working together every day toward this shared vision.

Drinks for Teachers’ Return – Help Stock the Fridge!
We’re welcoming back our incredible staff with a fully stocked fridge! Please consider donating drinks (waters, sodas, sparkling water, etc.) by dropping them off at the main office.

Tuesday, August 5 – Teacher Placement
Teacher assignments will be shared digitally via ParentSquare in a fun puzzle format! You’ll also be able to view teacher placement in the Parent Portal.

Thursday, August 14 – Orientation and Open House
Join us on Thursday, August 14 for Orientation and Open House—a great opportunity to meet teachers, explore classrooms, and build a strong school-family connection before the year begins. At 9:00 AM, Pre-K and Kindergarten families will meet in the gym for orientation, while new families in Grades 1–5 will gather in the library. From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, all returning families in Grades 1–5 are invited to drop off supplies and meet their child’s teacher.

Sunday, August 17 – Night Before School Virtual Event @ 7 PM
Join us for a beloved Greenwood tradition: our Virtual Bedtime Story, PTA Meeting, and PAC Greetings. It all kicks off at 7 PM to help set a joyful tone for the first day!

Monday, August 18 – First Day of School
The first day of school is Monday, August 18, and arrival begins at 7:10 AM. Car riders should use both lanes and remain in their vehicles; if your child needs help opening the door, please park and walk them in. Bus riders should arrive at their stops at least five minutes early and be patient with drivers as they learn new names and routes. Parents are not permitted inside the building on the first day, but rest assured—we’ll have plenty of staff to help every Gator get to class with a smile! The late bell rings at 7:40 AM, so let’s work together to ensure a strong and on-time start. Please note that all Pre-K and Kindergarten parents must present a valid ID at pick-up.
