"Five Henrico County Public Schools high schools have been ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report. The media company honored Deep Run, Mills Godwin, Glen Allen, Douglas Freeman and J.R. Tucker high schools in its annual rankings. These honorees placed in the top 40% of the 17,680 schools U.S. News & World Report ranked for its 2023-24 report."

"The U.S. News rankings are based on schools’ performance on state assessments, either in absolute terms or by exceeding statistical expectations based on the school’s relative level of student poverty; achieving proficiency rates  on state tests for a school’s least-advantaged student groups; graduation rates; and how a school prepares students for college, based on AP exams."

"Deep Run, Godwin and Glen Allen were among the top 6% of high schools ranked in the U.S. These three schools were also the top three high schools ranked in Central Virginia, excluding alternative schools in the region."

"Deep Run, Mills Godwin, Glen Allen and Douglas Freeman were also recognized for their exemplary specialty centers, ranking among the best comparable magnet schools in the country. Deep Run houses the Center for Information Technology; Mills Godwin contains the Center for Medical Sciences; Glen Allen has the Center for Education and Human Development; and Freeman hosts the Center for Leadership, Government and Global Economics."
